Juraj TOMKA - violin

He started playing the violin at the age of five. He studied violin at the Conservatory in Bratislava under Mgr. art. Stanislav Mucha (2002-2007). At present he is a student at the Academy of Music in Bratislava in the class of doc. Jozef Kopelman. He is also studying chamber music with doc. Ján Slávik, ArtD.

During his studies he achieved some important successes: Kocian violin competition (Czech Republic) - successful participant (1997,1999,2000), Violin talents (Slovak Republic) - laureate (2000), Competition of Slovak Conservatories - solo - laureate (2004, 2006), Competition of Slovak Conservatories - chamber music (piano trio) - absolute winner (2007).

He has been a participant of various masterclasses as a soloist and orchestral player as well: Violin Workshop (Žilina, SR) - doc. Jindřich Pazdera (1993,1997), The International Youth Symphony Orchestra (Bremen) - cond. Heinrich Buhlmann (2004, 2005), Wiener Jeunesse Orchester - cond. Herbert Böck (2007), The European Union Youth Orchestra - cond. Vladimir Ashkenazy (2008), Musica Arvenzis (Dolný Kubín, SR) - Vesselin Paraschkevov (2008), The International Holland Music Sessions - Serguei Azizian, Isaac Schuldmann (2008).

As a soloist he has performed more times with the symphony orchestra of the Conservatory in Bratislava, the State Chamber Orchestra in Žilina and Symphony Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Bratislava. As a member of chamber ensembles (Piano trio Istropolis, Mucha Quartet II) he has appeared on various festivals of chamber music - Orfeus, Presentation of young composers, Chamber Music Days of J. N. Hummel, New Slovak Music. He also gained experience with chamber music as an artistic leader of the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of the Bratislava Conservatory. In 2007 he organised a tour of the orchestra around western Slovakia under the financial support of the Orange foundation.

In 2008 he was a member of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra.

Since 2009 he is first violin of SLovak Quartet
